Today I am going to let you in on a secret Pinterest hack that is rarely talked about!
A couple of years ago, Pinterest launched a visual search tool which allows its users to choose an existing pin, zoom in on any part of the image, and then get results for pins that look the same.
If you haven’t read the first post in my Beginners Guide to Pinterest series, please check it out here: 2018 Beginners Guide to Pinterest: How to Set Up a Business Account. I cover all of the basics on how to get your account up and running!
For example, say your are browsing your feed and see this pin (below). You love the decor and want to find more pins that are visually similar.
Click on the pin to expand it. In the top right corner of the image, you’ll see a gray circle– I drew a purple circle around it for your convenience.
Click on the gray circle. You’ll see hundreds of similar pins appear on your screen. You’ll notice they all have a similar set up: a single couch, a coffee table and a photo hanging on the wall. This is a great feature if you’re looking to build up one of your Pinterest boards.
For instance, I have a home decor board that I solely dedicate to living rooms pins. If I wanted to build up my board with additional, similar looking pins, I could use this feature. Additionally, I think it’s a huge plus to have a visually aesthetic board. I’ve noticed the more cohesive my pins are, the more followers I get.
Let’s take our search one step further. Let’s say within this living room image, the photo above the couch stands out to you. Look closely and you will see that there are a few white dots scattered throughout the image, specifically on the pillows, lamp, photo and coffee table.
Click on the white dot on the picture. As you can see, this narrowed down our search even further. Check out all of the desert inspired framed photos, most of which will be linked to a product that you can purchase. This feature is great if you’re looking for inspiration for home decor and fashion.
I use this feature all the time and I hope you’ll find it helpful. If you have any questions please leave them in the comments below!
